Hydraulic Machinery

Surge Control Valve Explained.

Surge or water hammer mitigation is an essential safety requirement for all hydraulic systems wether it is power house or pumping station.

When power supply fails the drive and driven machinery stops suddenly. Similarly when a valve shuts off suddenly, the flow stops which create vacuum pressures in some locations and extremely high pressures elsewhere.

The high and low pressure waves travels to and fro in the piping system and creates hammering effect which is very dangerous for entire machinery.

The Valves shown in the video are surge suppression or water hammer mitigation valves installed in Pump House, Jamrud, Peshawar Pakistan.

These valves were installed back in 1990s, completed their useful life and are now to be replaced.

The basic concept and technical detail will be published soon.
